Here’s a few tips to help make your event more sustainable and reduce your costs:
Ask guests to bring a container or beeswax wraps so they can take home any leftovers.
Use Council’s event bunting – did you know that community organisations can borrow bunting from Council for free? This provides an affordable, eco-friendly option for colourful decoration instead of using balloons, glitter, or streamers.
Utilise free BBQ facilities at local reserves like Apex Park in Wangaratta or Lions Park in Glenrowan. Don’t forget to bring everything you need, including all utensils and cleaning equipment. You can search for local BBQs using this link: Meat in a Park website: Find a Public BBQ Park in Australia
Source local catering and bring your own containers for collection. Many caterers are open to using your containers—just check with them first to understand their requirements!
Eat seasonal foods, which tend to be cheaper when they’re in abundance and means your food is having less impact on the environment if it hasn’t been imported to your local shops.
Don't forget to check first if you need to notify or obtain a permit from Council for your gathering. You can find out everything you need to know here: Public Gatherings in RCoW
