The Rural City of Wangaratta's Australia Day Awards celebrate the achievements and contributions of individuals and community groups in our region.
We invite you to think about the people and organisations that you interact with in our community and nominate an individual or community group who you believe are deserving of this recognition. Who do you know that has done something incredible for this community, nominate them to say 'thank you'.
These prestigious awards are one of the highest honours a Council can bestow to publicly acknowledge local heroes, whose dedication and contributions may otherwise go unnoticed.
2025 Award Categories include:
- Citizen of the Year
- Young Citizen of the Year (Under 25)
- Community Event/Project of the Year
Recipients will be presented with their awards at the 2025 Australia Day celebrations held in Wangaratta.
In addition to receiving an award on Australia Day, the Citizen of the Year will be honoured by having their handprint carved into the Marmungan Rock. These handprints are an enduring tribute to outstanding individuals in our community. The unveiling of the handprint and accompanying cultural ceremony is held during Reconciliation Week and is hosted by the Dirrawarra Indigenous Network.
Nominations close: Saturday 9 November
