Nursery Update
Published on 20 January 2025
As we step into 2025, we’re proud to celebrate a milestone achievement from last year—a record-breaking number of indigenous plants added to our municipality! Our team cultivated and planted an impressive 9,039 trees, shrubs, grasses, and wildflowers. These were grown from locally collected seeds, carefully nurtured until they were ready to thrive in our bush reserves and conservation spaces.
In addition, we partnered with Merriwa Industries to plant a further 5,190 native species at South Wangaratta Reserve. A project funded through a settlement process led by the Environment Protection Authority, addressing a local pollution issue and the resulting fine. In total, an impressive 14,148 indigenous plan species into the ground for the season!
The team have already begun the process of propagation for the 2025 season – this actually begins very shortly after we finish the planting season from the year prior! Our focus this year will be groundcover and grass species to focus on understory coverage.
