Scotland and Namibia hit the pitch in Wangaratta before the T20 World

Rural City of Wangaratta is thrilled to host the official T20 cricket teams from Scotland and Namibia as they warm up for the T20 World Cup being held on Australian soil later in October.
Council has embraced the opportunity to welcome these international sporting stars to Wangaratta.
“Being able to see world class sports people in our own backyard is fantastic,” said Rural City of Wangaratta Mayor Cr Dean Rees.
“The friendly game between the internationals on Tuesday was terrific and their feedback on the standard of the wicket and it's presentation was a huge credit to the City Colts Cricket Club and the Turf Management team of the Rural City of Wangaratta."
"It's unfortunate that the matches between the Melbourne Stars Academy and Melbourne Renegades Academy teams were abandoned due to wet weather. But having their presence in town this week, holding cricket clinics and visiting our schools was a huge benefit for our community and we can't thank them enough."
"The big news is that Namibia will be playing Scotland on Saturday at the new time of 1pm at Barr 1 Oval at the HP Barr Reserve."
"This game will be a great opportunity to see the spectacle that is international level cricket. It will be great entertainment!”
“While we couldn't control the weather, hosting this event has given us a chance to showcase Wangaratta. We have worked hard to build a reputation as a regional city that can host big city events, and we are doing this,” said Cr Rees.
“Hosting the T20 World Cup Preparation Tournament is an exciting development in our growth as an events destination. Not only does it show what we have on offer and what we are capable of hosting here, but events of this nature are great for bringing our community together and building connections.”
You can witness the international sporting prowess free at 1pm on Saturday 8 October at Barr 1 Oval, HP Barr Reserve in the showstopping world cup preview, Namibia v Scotland.
The T20 World Cup Preparation Tournament has been made possible with funding through the Victorian Government’s Significant Sporting Events Program and support from the Wangaratta District Cricket Association, City Colts Cricket Club, Sports Marketing Australia and Edge FM.
