R U OK Day Morning Tea Event
Published on 11 September 2023
The Rural City of Wangaratta is pleased to invite all residents to join us in observing R U OK Day, an annual event held every 14 September dedicated to supporting people to stay connected and have conversations that can help through challenging times in their lives.
The key message is that social connectedness can assist people in crisis and is a whole of community responsibility.
The theme for this year is "I'm here to hear." The message emphasises the importance of being there for our loved ones and simply listening.
You don't need to be a professional to have this crucial conversation.
As part of our R U OK Day, Rural City of Wangaratta will be hosting a community morning tea to raise awareness and provide an opportunity for residents and friends to come together. During this event, a speaker from the Grit and Resilience team will share valuable tips and methods to encourage and inspire you to ask your loved ones, "Are you okay?"
Event Details:
Date: Thursday, 14 September 2023
Time: 10:30 am.
Location: Wangaratta Library, Docker Street, Wangaratta
This event is open to all, and there is no need to register or RSVP. Just come along, join us for a cup of tea, and engage in a meaningful conversation that could make a world of difference to someone in need.
Ash Fitzpatrick, Rural City of Wangaratta Councilor is keen to remind everyone of the importance of checking in with their loved ones, especially during these challenging times when many are facing financial distress.
"In times of hardship, a simple question like 'Are you okay?' can provide comfort and support to someone who needs it most. Let's be there for each other, listen, and show that we care."
