Planning for Sustainable Economic Growth
Published on 26 June 2024
Community members are encouraged to participate in shaping the future of our local economy as Rural City of Wangaratta opens public consultation on its Draft Economic Development & Tourism Strategy. Endorsed during Tuesday night’s Ordinary Council Meeting, the draft strategy outlines key initiatives aimed at fostering sustainable economic growth within our municipality.
The public consultation period provides an opportunity for residents, businesses, and stakeholders to review the draft strategy and provide feedback which will be incorporated into the final report. Comments and suggestions can be submitted until Friday, 2 August 2024.
Deputy Mayor Harvey Benton highlighted the importance of community input in finalising the strategy, emphasising its role in guiding achievable actions to support economic vitality and tourism development in Wangaratta.
“This plan is a culmination of extensive consultation with local community, businesses, and industry stakeholders who provided valuable insights to guide the future for our municipality.’ He said.
“The strategies vision and implementation plan for the next 5 years set the priorities to drive the liveability and economic prosperity for Wangaratta. We encourage all community members to engage with the draft strategy.” He continued.
There will be in-person engagement drop-in sessions to assist community consultation. Community members can also download the draft strategy from Council’s website and submissions can be made via the Connect Wangaratta portal.
