The Rural City of Wangaratta is thrilled to announce the grand opening of our much-anticipated Youth Hub. The Hub will serve as a welcoming and safe drop-in space for teenagers starting from the end of February. The official name of the Hub has been conceived by young people and will be revealed at the opening event on Monday 26 February, from 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm.

The Hub is designed to be an inclusive environment catering to young people aged 12-17. It aims to provide a space where teenagers can connect with peers, feel safe and heard, and seek assistance when needed. Staffed by qualified professionals experienced in working with youth, the Hub will collaborate with various services to address topics relevant to teenagers and their well-being.

A diverse range of activities will be available at the Hub, including PlayStation 5 gaming, board games, crafternoons, gardening, and cooking classes. Additionally, there will be opportunities for engaging discussions on issues such as substance use and respectful relationships.

Located within the Maternal & Child Health Service in Yarrunga, the Hub will initially operate every Monday afternoon, with additional days added as demand dictates. The establishment of The Hub is Council’s response to feedback and ideas put forward by young people in the community. This has been supported by a matched vision from the Rural City of Wangaratta's Councillors, and Youth Development Team.

To mark the occasion, young people and their families are invited to join us in celebrating the opening of The Hub. The event will feature a performance by local musician Jazy Jade, a free BBQ, and exciting giveaways for attendees.

"The Hub is more than just a physical space; it's an indication of our commitment to supporting the well-being and growth of teenagers in our community. We believe that by providing a safe and inclusive environment, we can empower young people to connect, learn, and thrive.” Said Rachel Harrop, Youth Development Officer
