Rural City of Wangaratta is thrilled to announce funding has been received to breathe new life into the well-loved Whorouly netball courts.
The Whorouly Recreation Reserve is the hub of the local community, and this funding has been widely welcomed by the Committee of Management, Whorouly Football Netball Club and the local community.
"Local sporting clubs are the heart of regional communities, and Whorouly is no exception," said Rural City of Wangaratta Mayor Cr Dean Rees.
"Council has been looking for funding assistance to upgrade the courts for some time and we are really happy this project will be able to be commenced and completed in the next financial year."
Deputy Mayor Cr Harry Bussell said his community is very happy to know their netball courts will be upgraded.
"The Whorouly Lions are a significant club in the Ovens and King competition," said Cr Bussell.
"This funding will provide a real boost to the morale of the club from the A-Grade players right through to the Development Squad kids."
"Sporting infrastructure is important in small rural communities for mental and physical wellbeing, it provides a place of connection. We can't wait for the works to get underway!"
Rural City of Wangaratta has received $250,000 to upgrade the Whorouly netball courts under the Victorian Government's Country Football and Netball Program delivered in partnership with the AFL, AFL Victoria and Netball Victoria.
This program provides funding to assist regional football, netball clubs, and associations to upgrade and develop facilities in rural, regional, and outer metropolitan locations.
