Works upgrading the Wangaratta Magpies Cricket Clubrooms at the showgrounds are now complete following a six-month program of works.

The upgrades have delivered female-friendly toilets, female-friendly showers, an accessible toilet with shower and improved access to the clubrooms.

Rural City of Wangaratta Director of Community and Infrastructure Marcus Goonan said the transformation of a previously underused area was a logical step forward.

“The clubrooms now contain the modern facilities local sportspeople need.”

“What use to be a dark space with limited storage is now a fully renovated usable space providing necessary amenities.”

“Council is proud to provide the best sporting facilities across the municipality that we can, this requires modernising some of the infrastructure, but we are certainly making great progress!”

Wangaratta District Cricket Association, the Magpies Cricket Club and the Agricultural Society all stand to benefit from the new facilities.

President of the Magpies Cricket Club, Darren Grant, said it was a great improvement and club members were happy to hear it had been completed.

“We are very happy with the works, it’s now a nice, light, clean, functional space, and we are looking forward to using it in the coming cricket season”.

The clubroom upgrade was made possible by $100,000 funding received from the Victorian Government’s Local Community Sport and Recreation Projects through Sport and Recreation Victoria.

Rural City of Wangaratta contributed a further $23,000 to deliver to project and would like to thank our local trades in bringing this project to fruition – Zabbas Plumbing & Contracting, RM Claytons Joinery, Websters Electrical, Rigoni Plastering, Programmed Property Services, Design by Jones, Brad Currie Carpentry and Snowden Engineering.
