Wangaratta Library announces an upcoming visit by author Stephen Whiteside, who will be discussing his latest work, Snow, Fire and Gold. The event will take place on Wednesday 24 July at 2.30pm.

Snow, Fire and Gold chronicles the captivating lives of Bill Spargo and Evelyn Piper in the Australian mountains above the snow line near Mt Hotham. Stephen Whiteside, an esteemed writer, and avid walker and skier of the Australian mountains encountered Spargo's Hut in 1982. Struck by its remarkably preserved state, Whiteside meticulously documented the hut, creating a comprehensive photographic inventory and ensured its recognition by Heritage Victoria.

Drawing from extensive interviews conducted over nearly two years, Whiteside unveils the rich history of Spargo and Piper, offering a compelling narrative that will resonate with history enthusiasts and those fascinated by Australia's natural environment.

"We are thrilled to host Stephen Whiteside and explore the rich history he has uncovered in Snow, Fire and Gold," said Wangaratta Library Coordinator Loueen Twyford "This event is an opportunity for our community to delve into the stories that shape our local heritage."
