Grit and Resilience Program Supports Loneliness Awareness Week
To mark Loneliness Awareness Week 2024 the Grit and Resilience Program are highlighting the launch of the Ending Loneliness Together website. The website hosts helpful resources and research including a Real Stories section profiling people who have experienced profound loneliness - with the aim of creating awareness and inspiring action.
Loneliness can affect anyone, regardless of age or background and there are many different reasons for feeling lonely. Original Yellow Wiggle, Greg, has contributed to Real Stories along with an ex-NRL player, young people, international students, and a TV presenter.
The Wangaratta based Grit and Resilience Program aims to address loneliness by fostering strong community ties, providing support, and directing people to resources like the Ending Loneliness Together website. Through various initiatives and events, they strive to build a more connected and resilient Wangaratta.
Loneliness Awareness Week, 5-11 August

Loneliness is a critical issue of our time and has been recognised as a public health priority for many countries around the world. This year Loneliness Awareness Week aims to spark conversations about why we feel lonely and encourage all Australians to create a culture of connection at home, work, school, and in the community.
Grit and Resilience Program
The Grit and Resilience Program, proudly funded by the Department of Health and based on recommendations from the Royal Commission into Victoria’s Mental Health System, is dedicated to enhancing social connection and inclusion within the Wangaratta community. Our program is led by a consortium of five key organisations: The Centre, Gateway Health, Albury Wodonga Health, headspace, and King Valley Neighbourhood House, along with seven community partners who joined us in October 2023.
We encourage all members of the community to join us in this important movement. To learn more about our program, connect with us on social media, or visit our website at https://www.wangaratta.vic.gov.au/Residents/Grit-Resilience. Together, we can make a difference and create a supportive environment where no one has to feel alone.
