Works to upgrade the Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) system at the Ovens Street Government Centre are due to begin on 21 February. There will be a range of impacts on RCoW staff, building tenants and to a lesser degree the public during the 16-week installation period.

The HVAC upgrade will start with replacement of above ceiling heating coils. These works will not affect any of the office or customer areas.

Please also note that Oven St will be closed off on 10 March to remove the old HVAC plant by crane and get the new plant into position. A number of carparks in the Big W carpark will also be used by the contractors across the 16-week lifetime of the project.

The works are necessary given the existing HVAC plant is at the end of its serviceable life. Once completed the new HVAC system will provide more comfortable conditions for visitors, staff, and tenants.

The works also provide a commercial and environmental benefit to council by reduced utility costs by $85,000 per annum, reducing maintenance costs by $6000 per annum, while also reducing carbon emissions by 1800 Tonnes of Co2 over 15 years. The new system will have an asset life of 15 – 20 years.

The $2.5 million Government Center HVAC upgrade contract has been awarded to AG Coombs / Floyd Industries.
