EOI Community Pop-up Cinema

The Rural City of Wangaratta invites Expressions of Interest from rural communities who would like to be considered to host a Pop-up Cinema during the winter months of June – August 2025. This initiative aims to engage the community through accessible film screenings that foster social connections.

Council will deliver one Pop-up Cinema per rural town, providing all movie screening equipment, and an operator. The cinema screening equipment is suitable for either indoor or outdoor use and there are a range of family friendly movies to choose from.

Communities would be expected to enhance the movie screening experience by organising and delivering an event that reflects local values and interests. This could take the form of fundraising, or a potluck style dinner where attendees bring dishes representing their cultures, or a talent show that highlights local performers. Any funds raised will got back to the community groups.

Community groups can join forces and combine their Expressions of Interest. By encouraging local groups to participate, Council hopes to not only entertain but also strengthen community bonds and foster connection and creativity.

Irene Grant Mayor:

"Fostering social connections during the winter months is crucial for maintaining community spirit. We hope the Pop-Up Cinemas will offer a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere where neighbours can gather for a shared experience.”

Interested community groups are invited to submit their proposals outlining their vision for hosting a Pop-Up Cinema event. Proposals should include details such as venue selection, film programming, audience engagement activities, and logistical arrangements.

Expressions of interest close on 13 March 2025.
