Join us at Wangaratta Library for an exclusive author talk with Ryan Butta, celebrating the release of his latest historical non-fiction book, The Bravest Scout at Gallipoli.

Ryan Butta is an acclaimed author known for his works of historical non-fiction. His previous book, The Ballad of Abdul Wade, recounted the untold story of Afghan workers in 1800s Australia and was longlisted for the 2023 Indie Book Awards. Ryan's feature writing has appeared in Good Weekend Magazine and Galah Press, where he regularly contributes stories about regional Australia. Currently residing on Dharawal country on the NSW South Coast, Ryan is dedicated to revealing and understanding the hidden and forgotten stories of Australia.

In The Bravest Scout at Gallipoli, Ryan brings to life the remarkable story of Harry Freame, a Japanese-Australian adventurer, ANZAC, orchardist, and spy. Through meticulous research and engaging storytelling, he sheds light on Freame's extraordinary contributions during World War I and his adventurous life.

You will have the unique opportunity to hear Ryan discuss his inspiration for writing the book, the challenges he faced in uncovering hidden historical narratives, and the importance of dismantling myths to build a better future for Australia.
