A group exhibition celebrating work from local studio Artmania is opening at Wangaratta Art Gallery this month. Art as Sanctuary will showcase an array of colourful contemporary works full of humour and grace. From bold and vibrant papier mâché masks to fabric food sculpture.

The Artmania studio artists exhibit their work regularly in our region and Wangaratta Art Gallery is pleased to welcome them back, having also exhibited a selection of works in 2022. The Gallery continues to showcase the efforts of these talented artists by providing an opportunity to share their work with the community.

Artmania Wangaratta is an arts studio and all-inclusive space for people of all abilities to gain skills and confidence to explore their artistic interests in a variety of mediums. Coordinated by art educator Shae O’keefe, Artmania offers one-on-one tuition, group programs and workshops to empower people living with a disability to express themselves and tell their own stories.

Wangaratta Art Gallery Director, Rachel Arndt says:

“Creative expression is very important to these artists - it gives a sense of purpose for many. It is also an opportunity to connect with like-minded people. We are pleased to support these artists in this important stage of realising their creative vision.”

Art as Sanctuary will be opened by the CEO of the Shepparton Art Museum (SAM), Melinda Martin, on Friday 23 August from 5pm at Wangaratta Art Gallery. All welcome.

The launch will also celebrate the opening of Crossing an exhibition by Cheshunt-based artist Fran O’Neill in Gallery 1. To book your free ticket, please visit: www.wangarattaartgallery.com.au
