Parking Payment System to Transition to EasyPark App

 

Last night Rural City of Wangaratta Council endorsed moving from the current car parking payment system in the Wangaratta CBD, consisting of 72 parking meters and the EasyPark app, to using the EasyPark app as the only payment method.

 

Councils’ decision included a commitment to put in place appropriate and proactive arrangements to assist uptake by new users of the app and introduce a simple alternative payment system for community members that are unable to access the app. Council will also get regular updates about the performance of the new system with a review report to be submitted to Council in June 2026.

 

Councils’ decision means all physical parking meters will be decommissioned and not replaced. Signage will direct users to the EasyPark app to pay for car parking.

 

Continuing with a user pays system will help fund essential community services and maintain local infrastructure without shifting the financial burden onto all ratepayers through increased rates and levies, or reduced services.

 

There are also locations within and near the CBD where parking remains free.

 

Key benefits of using the EasyPark app to pay for parking include:

  • Users pay only for time used;
  • Provides the convenience of extending the parking session using a phone without having to go to a physical machine;
  • It will also let users know when an area has time limited parking reducing the risk of getting fined;
  • In Wangaratta it can be used throughout the CBD including the privately operated parking area of the Co-Store;
  • Once downloaded the app can also be used to pay for parking in other locations.

 

Reminder for Residents

  • Free parking remains available within and near the CBD. More information about these locations can be found on Council’s website: https://www.wangaratta.vic.gov.au/Residents/Parking/Where-can-I-park
  • Sign posted time limits apply throughout the CBD.
  • Other options for parking: free parking, monthly passes for CoStore through EasyPark and Council parking permits.
  • Download the EasyPark app via Google Play or the Apple Store.
