Our team's Nature Diaries - April 2025

It’s that time again! My favourite time of the year – nesting box checking!
Over the past few weeks we have been busy checking all 59 of our nesting boxes that we have scattered throughout the township in hopes to find some fury friends inhabiting them. This year was the most amazing year yet with several boxes holding glider families, a couple of possums and even a frog or two! There is nothing like the quiet excitement you feel when climbing up that ladder and peering into the box to see what you might find. Sometimes there’s simply only used nests, leaf/bark debris or fur remaining, whereas in others, we have little visitors taking advantage of our cozy tree homes such as frogs, wasps, bees and the occasional antechinus. For me, this is the ultimate reward. It reminds you exactly why you do this job. When you revegetate an area from a barren, weed infested area, to a place with all native vegetation where animals like this choose to make it their home… there is simply nothing better, talk about the warm and fuzzy feeling!
I only hope next year there are even more boxes being used.
