Parks, Gardens and Reserves
Council maintains parks, gardens and sport and recreation areas within the municipality. These areas include Merriwa Park, King George V Memorial Gardens, the Wangaratta Rose Garden (in conjunction with the Wangaratta Garden Club), Rotary Park, Batchelors Green, Apex Park, median strips, neighbourhood parks and playgrounds.
The Rural City of Wangaratta is home to a number of picturesque rivers and creeks including the King and Ovens Rivers and the One Mile and Three Mile Creeks.
Merriwa Park is a beautiful park featuring a majestic stand of redgums in sweeping lawns. Originally named “Merriwa Gardens”, the name Merriwa is thought to be an aboriginal term meaning “rich flat ground at the bend of a river.”
North Beaches is valued by Wangaratta residents for its natural beauty, history and activities like walking and cycling.
