Flood information

Information relevant at 4 December 2017.

Several car parks and paths around Wangaratta remain closed due to flooding. While the flood was less significant than had been predicted, residents are urged to continue to monitor weather conditions and heed flood warnings and information.

Anyone who has experienced damage or hardship as a result of flooding can contact Council's Recovery Team on 5722 0888.

Planning for flood

It is important to be prepared for flood. To assist with this, SES Victoria has developed the Wangaratta Local Flood Guide.

What You Should Do

  • Stay informed - monitor local conditions and be aware of the situation.
  • Check the Wangaratta Local Flood Guide which is available on the SES website www.ses.vic.gov.au/get-ready/your-local-flood-information.  It provides information and a map about local flooding in and around Wangaratta and advice about how to prepare. Check to see if there is one near your location.
  • Farmers should move machinery and livestock to higher ground.
  • Check your emergency plan and locate your emergency kit.
  • Tune in to your emergency broadcasters: ABC local radio, commercial radio and designated community radio stations, or SKY NEWS television.
  • Floodwater is dangerous - never drive, walk or ride through floodwater.Floodwater is toxic - never play or swim in floodwater
