Cheer Your Heroes - Community Banner Project

Cheer Your Heroes - Community Banner Project Posted: 21-11-2017

A once in a lifetime opportunity exists for the Wangaratta community to follow the journey of the Queens Baton as is weaves its way through Wangaratta on Wednesday 14 February, on its way to the Gold Coast for the 2018 Commonwealth Games.

To get involved in this fantastic spectacle we are asking the local community to show your support to our local baton bearers by designing your own banner which you can hold along the route!

Your banner must be designed to reflect one or all of the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) core values of:

  • Humanity
  • Equality
  • Destiny

To design a banner, pick up a template from the Rural City of Wangaratta Customer Service Department or download the PDF template below. Please print the template on A3 paper and include the back side. You can design your banner either by hand (with crayons, paint, pencils, stickers etc.) or on a computer (please complete only in 2D). Your banner must reflect the themes of humanity, equality and destiny and must be completed in the size dimensions of the original template.

The competition is open to schools, organisations and the general public. All designs must be submitted to the Rural City of Wangaratta Government Centre by 5pm on Monday 18 December or by email to events@wangaratta.vic.gov.au.

A selection process will determine the 65 best designs which will then be produced into a large banner to be displayed along the Queen’s Baton Relay route on the day of the event. Two banners will be selected from each school, with the remaining selection made from the general public entries. All of the entries will be displayed at the Wangaratta Government Centre and Performing Arts Centre in February.

For further information please contact the events team on events@wangaratta.vic.gov.au or call (03) 5722 0888.
