How your Rates are Calculated

Rates are worked out based on your property's value and Council currently uses the Capital Improved Value (CIV) method which represents the total value of your property.

Your rates bill is calculated as follows:

  • Capital Improved Value (as shown on the rate notice)
  • Multiplied by the rate in the dollar (e.g. .005287)
  • Plus collection charges (if applicable)
  • Plus Fire Services Property Levy
  • Minus pension rebate (if applicable)

It is important to note that the revaluation of properties does not increase the overall amount of money the Council collects in rates.
