Initial enquiries to take out Australian citizenship are to be made to the Department of Immigration and Border Protection on 131880 or visit www.immi.gov.au
Applications can be completed online, by mail or in person. Completed forms, together with the prescribed fee, are to be lodged with the Department of Immigration and Border Protection for processing.
Council will be notified by the Department of Immigration and Border Protection when a Citizenship Ceremony is to be held. The Department advises candidates the date of the ceremony at which they will become Australian citizens.
At the ceremony, candidates make their oath or affirmation of allegiance and receive their Certificate of Australian Citizenship, usually from the Mayor.
